Building Update

It is pleasing to report that since our last update work on phase 2 of the re-instatement, repairs to the roof and bell tower, has been advancing at a pace despite the problems arising from the COVID-19 outbreak. Unfortunately, as previously reported, there will be a delay of some 7 weeks against the original plan. Having said that work on the tower is now ahead of the revised schedule with the roof  being completed, following which we will hope shortly to see some of the cover and scaffolding being taken down. However, work on the  nave roof is much more significant, given it's size, which means that there is still a long way to go. In the meantime all the replacement stone has been sourced, cut and is on site. A similar situation pertains to the replacement timbers.

Whilst this work has been going on tender documents for Phase 3, which includes the re-ordering of the church, have been issued and received back and are currently being analysed. When this has been completed we will be able to announce which contractor will be taking on this work.

In addition to the re-instatement work involved in this next phase it also includes the many areas of refurbishment such as;

 Under-floor heating, plus radiators for rapid boost capacity

 Level stone flooring throughout the nave and aisles

 Low-energy lighting that will better reveal the beauty of the building

 A refitted kitchen and separate servery

 More accessible toilets

 Replacement glazed timber west doors with power operation

 Replacements carpets to the raised portions of the chancel and Lady Chapel

 A wheelchair access ramp to the Lady Chapel.

In addition to the above it is also pleasing to report that work has now commenced on the re-casting of the bells which should be complete by the end of this year.

Since our last update we have continued to receive support from the local community as well as others so much so that the total of donations has risen to around £50,000. We are very grateful for all those involved in helping us to reach this sum towards the cost of the refurbishment.
